Irish Brown Bread Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Kerrygold butter
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°. Grease an 8-by-5-inch metal loaf pan with butter.
  2. In a large bowl, sift the wheat and all-purpose flour with baking soda and salt.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk the buttermilk with the egg; stir in the dry ingredients with a wooden spoon until a rough dough is formed.
  4. Dust a smooth surface with flour and transfer the dough; knead the dough until smooth.
  5. Mold the dough into a loaf and put it in the prepared pan. Bake for about 50 minutes, until the bread has risen about 1/2 inch above the rim of the pan.
  6. Remove from oven and place on a wire cooling rack. Tap the base of the loaf and listen for a hollow sound. Let cool, then slice and serve with Kerrygold 100% pure grass-fed butter. Enjoy!
